Update: FDA Advisory Committee OKs Boosters for Vulnerable Groups

In its final vote, a U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) advisory committee decided unanimously to recommend COVID-19 booster doses to people over age 65, and those at high risk of getting the disease, including health care, frontline and essential workers. The recommendation only applies to a booster dose of Pfizer-BioNTech's vaccine, which is already approved for controlling the disease.

The decision came after the committee members initially voted 16 to 2 against the original request from Pfizer-BioNTech, which was to recommend booster doses for all people vaccinated with the companies' shot so far. The panel asked the FDA to reword the voting question to focus on the most vulnerable populations, and then unanimously supported the more restrictive use of boosters.
