Researchers reported this week that an experimental gene therapy lowered LDL cholesterol by more than 60%. The treatment was inspired by a genetic mutation carried by some people who naturally have low LDL levels and a reduced risk of heart disease. |
Scientists at Verve Therapeutics, a wholly owned subsidiary of Eli Lilly & Co., say that if the findings hold up in larger studies, the therapy could become a one-time treatment for one of the most difficult heart disease risk factors to manage over long periods of time. |
